Your Weekly Notion News Digest ✨ Spells for Systems πŸͺ„ Issue # 17

Is it time for a clean-up?

This week, we're back to a "normal" load of new features, videos, etc. With things being a bit lighter than last week, this could be a good time to clean up your Notion workspace.

Do you have a messy Notion workspace?

When people get overwhelmed with Notion or feel like they want to just throw it all away and start from scratch, (or worse, look for a different tool 😱), it's normally a sign they've got some cleaning to do.

I wrote an article about the signs your workspace is messy and I teach you how to fix it.

If you need a more gradual process, I recently discovered Janice CK's free 5-day email course, Simplify & Streamline Your Notion which might also help you bring more space, clarity and cleanliness to your Notion workspace. Her newsletter, The Slow Digest, is also helpful in teaching ways of getting more efficient without getting stuck in the vicious circle of setting up productivity tactics to avoid doing the actual work we have.

So why don't you take some time this week to tackle a few cleaning tasks?

AI Built Database: You can now ask Notion AI to help you build a database. Put in your prompt and it thinks of all the properties you might need, and sets them up.

I see this as being very useful for beginner users who aren't sure where to start but are ready to jump beyond templates, or for people who get good at writing prompts so that the AI can set up your database in seconds.

Here's what I ended up with on my first try:

Not bad for a first try. But why did it choose a show when it seems to understand it's about exercise?

Time for some changes... The Spells for Systems newsletter has been going for almost 6 months now. And I'm grateful to all of you who are still hanging around. Thank you 🀩I'm bringing two new changes: 1) I am taking out the in-depth introduction on a Notion or productivity-related topic. I am considering a new newsletter, specific to freelancers who want to use Notion, but that's news for another day. For the next little while, this newsletter will jump straight into what you need, which are...

This week I've explored goal tracking. Or more specifically, are we doing it right? Are we taking the time to notice the progress and not just how close we are from acheiving our goals? Are you tracking your goals right? Goal tracking is probably one of the most popular personal use cases for Notion. But are you tracking the right things?I've noticed a lot of people (past me did this too) who track their goals only based on the end target. Often it's a goal weight, an amount of money, a...

Alfred (the cyclone) has come and gone, things are back to normal, so let's dive into this week's digest. Friends make everything *magic* More people are working in isolation. Especially if you're a knowledge worker, even more so if you work from home. So much of our time is spent at a desk where it's up to each individual to do whatever is necessary to get things done.Put on some music. Get yourself a cup of coffee. Dress in a way that tricks your brain into being productive. Turn on a...
